Round 1 of the Qleisure Kids Karting Championship got under way on the morning of Tuesday 19th August 2008. The weather was damp with some light showers making the early heats cautious.
A group of 13 very excited drivers turned up for round 1 of the QKKC, held at Qleisure in Albourne, West Sussex.
Race Results
Heat 1:
1st - Jack Fowler
2nd - Kieran Baily
3rd - George Miller
4th - Alex Hughes
5th
- Tom Mottram
6th - Larissa Taylor
A very impressive drive from Kieran who started at the back of the grid and drove through to second position, one to watch for the future! Larissa was a bit unfortunate getting to grips with the conditions in her first heat and dropped three plces.
Heat 2:
1st - Charlie Chalaye
2nd - Chris Mottram
3rd - Joshua Bacon
4th - Theo Harris
5th - Jack Wheeler
6th - Daisy Roffe
Charlie, Chris and Joshua all had their sights on 1st place to the very end but Charlie showed no signs of letting his postion slip. The battle was for fourth position after Daisy dropped 2 places, Jack couldnt catch Theo making it an easy finish for him in 4th place.
Heat 3:
1st - George Miller
2nd - Kieran Baily
3rd - Joe Hewings
4th - Alex Hughes
5th - Jack Fowler
Excitement from the beginning of the race to the bitter end. Alex had pole position but a spin caused him to drop 4 places and finish 4th. Jack lost 2 places to finish in 5th position. George took a comfortable win after Alex fell down the rankings. The battle was for 2nd position. A great drive from Kieran climbing 2 places into second position but the one who really stood out was birthday boy Joe! Whatever Kieran did Joe was doing faster, chasing from the back of the field to eventually take Kieran on the very last lap. Joe had 2nd place in his sights but the pressure got to him as he over-steered on the last bend giving it straight back to Kieran.
Heat 4:
1st - Charlie Chalaye
2nd - Theo Harris
3rd - Joshua Bacon
4th - Chris Mottram
5th - Daisy Roffe
6th - Jack Wheeler
Daisy had pole position but couldnt hold on, she dropped to 5th position. Theo played it cool, started in 2nd place and happy to finish there. Josh and Chris both climbed 1 position each. Jack fell down3 places to finish 6th. One of the most impressive drives of the round was by Charlie, starting in 6th place and finishing in 1st and also made the whole thing just look so easy.
Heat 5:
1st - Tom Mottram
2nd - George Miller
3rd - Alex Hughes
4th - Joe Hewings
5th - Jack Fowler
6th - Larissa Taylor
Joe should have had this race in a bag, starting in pole position. Instead it was a bit of a struggle and he dropped 3 places to finish 4th. Tom took full advantage and pulled away from the pack to take 1st place. George came out of nowhere for 2nd position, Alex was happy to keep 3rd place. Larissa fell to the back of the pack and couldnt catch up whilst Jack climbed to 5th after a bumpy start.
Heat 6
1st - Charlie Chalaye
2nd - Joshua Bacon
3rd - Chris Mottram
4th - Theo Harris
5th - Jack Wheeler
6th - Daisy Roff
The 3rd win for Charlie and again he made the whole thing look like a walk in the park, this is a driver that will be competing for the cahmpionship to the very last race. Joshua our fastest driver slipped to 2nd place (a very polite man on the track). Chris had to settle with 3rd place as there was nothing he could do about Charlie cruising past. Theo had no problems in passing Jack for 4th position and Daisy was chasing at the back of the race.
Heat 7
1st - Larissa Taylor
2nd - George Miller
3rd - Tom Mottram
4th - Alex Hughes
5th - Kieran Baily
6th - Jack Fowler
Young lady Larissa suprised us all in this racel
The lights went green and Larissa left the other 5 drivers for dead to win the race. Kieran started in 2nd position but had 4 very quick drivers to hold off, not being able to block the whole track he lost a 3 positions finishing in 5th place. George took 2nd place but still had Tom and Alex to fight off. Jack lost 3rd position and finished in 6th position.
Heat 8
1st - Jack Wheeler
2nd - Theo Harris
3rd - Joshua Bacon
4th Joe Hewings
5th Daisy Roffe
Jack and Theo started in the places they finished without much danger of losing their positions. Joshua was climbing through the pack to finish in 3rd place but needed just a few more laps to take silver or gold. Joe decided to try and over-take Daisy on the outside of the second S bend which sent them both into the tyre wall.
Heat 9
1st - Kieran Baily
2nd - Charlie Chalaye
3rd - Tom Mottram
4th - Chris Mottram
5th - Joe Hewings
6th - Larissa Taylor
Kieran took first place without too many worries, starting at the fron of the pack and leaving all the battles behind him. Charlie climbed 1 position but couldnt catch the leader. Tom and Chris had each other in their sights but the brothers looked after each other to take 3rd and 4th positions. Joe lost 3rd place and finished in 5th and Larissa had too much work cut out in this heat starting at the back.
B Final
1st - Jack Wheeler
2nd - Alex Hughes
3rd - Jack Fowler
4th - Joe Hewings
5th - Larissa Taylor
6th - Daisy Roffe
Daisy and Larissa had their own battle throughout the final, bumper to bumper the whole race. Alex looked like he had 1st position tied up until Jack decided to wake up. Back in 4th position on the grid not a great performance in the heats and then suddenly after 3 laps he decided to put in some very impressive lap times and casually pass 1 driver at a time to take Gold. Joe couldnt stop Jack and after falling toff the drive line he also let another driver slip through taking 4th position. Alex was comfortable in 2nd place and Jack did just about enough to stop Joe from claiming back his 3rd position.
A Final
1st - George Miller
2nd - Charlie Chalaye
3rd - Kieran Baily
4th - Joshua Bacon
5th - Tom Mottram
6th - Chris Mottram
7th - Theo Harris
George and Charlie were at battle for first place, but Charlie couldnt hold off the speeds of George. The main battle was for 3rd place, all 5 drivers were neck to neck throughout the whole race. Kieran felt the pressure and was driving some protective lines forgetting about his race lines which nearly cost him 3rd place. Joshua was incredible after spinning out on the first lap only to get his head down and re-join the pack also putting in the fastest lap of the day. £rd place came down to the last lap with all 5 drivers on the straight in one line, who was going to over brake and who was going to under brake? The best option was under brake and Kieran was the only driver that did this which let him pull out of the pack to cross the finish line in 3rd position.
